Snippets and Quickies

Posted on April 29, 2010 in offspring | 0 Comments

OK, so not much has been happening… oh, except a LOT of stuffs. Rather than keep postponing actually blogging because “I’m too busy”, I’ll actually just blog. Snippet style. So lets go.

Item 1
Our son is now 18 freaking months old. He runs around like a crazy person and talks all.the.time… Each day he brings something new to the show, and this morning he decided he wanted to take his cheerios, stuff them in his PJ’s, and then retrieve for eating. One got away, and omg, it was the worst thing ever. I had to take a new cheerio and let him pretend to find it. The original cheerio, long gone, is likely a bathtime surprise tonight.

Item 2
We went to a friend’s two year old bday party, which was a total success for what I can gather are three reasons:

  1. We did not sit around and watch him open presents. We played outside the entire time.
  2. Beverages and bbq ribs for the adults of the beer kind. This may of been the most important factor.
  3. Kiddy Pool and three feet tall slide into the pool

Item 3
The kiddy pool… LilJ was amazing on it. He saw the birthday boy go down the slide, and after I put him on the slide he would get right.back.up run over and climb on the slide and go down again.

Item 4
Toy Story 2…. Let me tell you something: this movie is crack for toddlers. And yes, it’s permanently on in the car, and yes, whenever he gets in the car he smiles and points to the screen and says something. Can’t tell what, but I know it means “turn it on!”

Please to be playing the story of toys. Please.Now.

Cause for Celebration

Posted on March 5, 2010 in offspring | 0 Comments

1. For the last three nights, our son has slept all the way until 5am. Well, close enough to 5am that when I go get him and bring into our bed that it’s not too long before we turn the tv on to Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! We’ve become addicted to the Nick Jr in the mornings. I figure if it gets an extra 40 minutes of peace before we wake up… I’m all for it. Even if our son now loves Wubbzy, Kai Lan, and even the flipping blues clues.

2. The reason for the celebration regarding the sleeping above is because of teeth. Because sweet lordy lordy… he’s honestly pushed through at least 10 teeth in the last 8 weeks. Those of you who don’t know what that means probably wouldn’t read this blog, so you people can suck it.

3. Celebrating due to 3 nights of sleeping till 5? Really life? This is what our sleep life has come to… celebrating because we’re not up at 3, or maybe 4. or both!

4. Valentine’s Day this year… I gave my wife the best present I could think of. Well yes, an iPhone, but in addition to that, I sent her away for the weekend. Sleep!

Anyway, here’s a picture of Jack when he and I went to Bob’s Taco Stand for a valentine’s day mexican breakfast.

Two posts ago, also known as the beginning of this month, I resolved to do three simple things. Let’s check up on my progress into this year:

Lose 2 pounds
Close 2 new accounts
Read 2 books

Lose 2 pounds
I don’t know how this didn’t happen, but, well no. Just no. I think it has to do with the [...]

First Day, Hardest Day

The first day after being laid off is the hardest day. Actually, scratch that. let’s start again.
The first day after being laid off stops is the hardest day. And that fact is very, very weird.
It doesn’t seem to fit in my mind that it should have been hard. After all, wasn’t full, gainful employment [...]

So it is Resolved: January 2010

January 4, 2010 resolved
Thumbnail image for So it is Resolved: January 2010

It’s cliche to do year long resolutions. Doing “no-resolutions” has become a little hip, so I’m calling that a new cliche as well. Instead, I’m doing monthly resolutions, every month, for this year*.

Lose 2 pounds: People like to say they will lose 15 pounds in a year. I’m just going for 2 pounds in a [...]

2009 can suckit. At least, that’s how I’ve been thinking about this pile of a year for a while, probably post-layoff. But from a personal perspective, the family grew turbo-close, my son grew from 3 months to 15 months (wow), and we started a business. So was it good, or was it le suck?
I’ll [...]

Time: Christmas Eve.
Place: our makeshift Christmas tree, which is really just a table because we didn’t buy a tree this week. You know, because of the environment (read: economy) and all.
Her reaction: “But I thought we weren’t buying each other anything!!!” Muhahahaha.
This is a great idea for a present. It costs very very [...]

When I was laid off, I knew I’d get “unemployment”, whatever that was. But there really was precious few actually helpful articles online. So, here’s my general guide for a Texas employee:
What you get paid
If you worked for the last year, and generally made a good living — something like over $50,000 a year, you’ll [...]

Unexpected Awfulness Post Layoff: Sharing a Computer

December 21, 2009 laid-off
Thumbnail image for Unexpected Awfulness Post Layoff: Sharing a Computer

Sharing a computer sucks. I mean obviously this is tagged as a first-world-problem; if I could change a couple of problems in the world, it’d go like this: world hunger, all-get-along, healthcare, and then probably eradicating computer sharing. Like most couples, once the offspring go to bed, the TV turns on and both parents are [...]
